Public trust in truth, facts, and institutions is eroding — a foundational threat to democracy and to every meaningful human endeavour. We are building a media-literate public resilient enough to fight disinformation and SEEK FACTS on their OWN.

How Safeguarding works.
Fact-checking, source verification, digital safety, and conflict-sensitive reporting — embedded in every apprenticeship cohort, plus AI-assisted tooling for newsroom-scale verification. The system is only as strong as the information flowing through it.

Disinformation travels fast. The only way to fight it is to have a public that is ahead of it. Therefore, people need a HEAD START — they fall in love with facts, become resilient, build the capacity to fact-check, become literate enough to predict disinformation, and stay aware of their trusted information sources.
A three-track response: Pre-bunking via the Love Facts Campaign, Debunking via fact-checking trainings, and Innovation via Media and Information Literacy programming.
How we deliver it.
Pre-bunking

Debunking
Fact-checking trainings for journalists, partner newsrooms, and civic actors.
Innovations
Media and Information Literacy curricula and tools deployed across schools, universities, and community spaces.

Safeguarding sharpened the way our newsroom thinks about its craft. The cohort kept us honest, and the mentorship built lasting habits.
What MCI gets right with Safeguarding is treating fundamentals as a system — not a one-off workshop. That's why it sticks.
Funders see Safeguarding graduates produce credible journalism within months. That's the bar.
I came in unsure I belonged in a newsroom. Safeguarding gave me the tools, networks, and confidence to lead my own.
Frequently asked questions.
Pre-bunking, debunking, and AI-powered disinformation detection. We accept journalists, students, and newsroom leaders who fit this profile and are ready to commit to a full cohort cycle.
Each cohort has its own application window. Most projects under Safeguarding link to a dedicated landing page or form — see the project cards below. For partnership enquiries, use the CTA at the bottom of this page.
MCI's flagship cohorts are funded — participants do not pay tuition. Some specialised tracks may carry materials fees, which are stated on each project page.
The 6S Model is interlocking by design. Safeguarding feeds into every other pillar — and is in turn supported by them. Use the "Continue exploring" cards below to see neighbouring interventions.
